Research reveals that web designers believe their work is

NOTTINGHAM, England, October 27, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Research by web host 20i has revealed web designers ‘frustration with their customers’ attitudes towards pricing.

The survey of 500 web designers found that 87% think customers often underestimate the cost of web design, and only 12% think they charge enough for their work. The survey indicates that the average annual income of a full-time web designer is around £ 23,000 / $ 32,350.

These results put web design behind many other professional services in terms of annual revenue. The sector falls below the UK average annual salary of £ 29,600 to £ 31,400 for full-time workers and income commissioned by other creative and tech spheres, such as graphic design at £ 28,900 and the web development at £ 34,000. A career in web design is a popular choice, so the competition is fierce which lowers the costs.

This strong competition fosters creativity, with 43% of web designers producing content focused on website design, like blogs, videos, and podcasts, to stand out. Their need to keep abreast of rapidly changing technologies and design trends is clear: nine out of 10 make a conscious effort to keep up with developments in the industry.

On a more positive note, the survey also reveals growing optimism among web designers about the future of their industry, with 65% finding a job as easy to find as it was a year ago. This suggests that they have been relatively isolated from the economic effects of the roller coaster of lockdowns.

In fact, their outlook is very optimistic, with just 13% of them believing that it will be more difficult to find work in the next 12 months, and 70% of those polled are also excited to be a web designer today than they were a year ago.

Jonathan Brealey, Director of 20i, says: “I understand the frustrations of web designers when it comes to their clients not appreciating the amount of work involved in a modern website. While the appearance of a website is important, non-technical customers may not fully grasp the complexities of optimizing performance, security, and other functional elements.

“Even so, I’m happy to hear that despite this, most web designers are optimistic about their future in the industry and still enjoy their work.”
